Amazon Echo Dot (3rd Gen) review: better Echo with Low priceJuly 10, 2019
The most popular Echo device: now with beautiful design, richer sound and still a low budget smart speaker.
Back in 2017, we were all excited about Amazon’s smallest smart speaker. The 2nd Generation Echo dot was not only the smallest between Amazon smart speakers, but it was also with an incredible price tag. Now Amazon has upped its game, not only is the newer dot looking better than the previous generation, but it also sounds better, this upgrade now gives the Echo Dot an upper hand against its competitor the google home mini.
Amazon heard all our feedback, and give the Echo Dot some upgrade, The Amazon Echo Dot third generation (3rd Gen) now comes with better sound, beautiful design, and still a low-cost budget smart speaker.
The price tags on the Amazon Echo Dot device gives you the option of having Alexa all over your home, so you got a small package with all the features and functionality of the regular echo for a lower price. We’ll be looking at the new changes on the Echo Dot to see how it functions and how different it is to its predecessor.
The first thing you would notice about the new Dot is the look, Amazon gave the Dot a new and better design, replacing the hard plastic shell with a soft look like cloth cover finish around it like the Google home mini design. Now making it look more unique and nice to look at, even fits perfectly in your home.
The 3rd Generation Dot is bigger than the previous Dot the 2nd Generation, measuring 3.9″ wide x 1.7″ tall (2nd gen was 3.3″ wide x 1.3″ tall), what’s more, the top and base edges are increasingly adjusted and rounded. It is additionally generously heavier at about double the heaviness of the second Generation Echo Dot. The new dot now comes with 3 different colors as well (Charcoal, Heather Gray and Sandstone)."The Functionality of the 3rd and 2nd Generation Echo Dot is still similar but the design changed" Click To Tweet
The new Dot now got a circular power socket, and it still got the same 3.5mm stereo Audio output for use with external speakers as the previous dot. Still got the 4 buttons at the top (the volume button to increase or decrease the sound, the mute button if you want to temporarily disable the Assistant and the wake button to wake the assistant).
And the famous blue ring light which shows the Alexa voice service, also getting rid of the big amazon branding logo, now make the Echo Dot look more appealing.
I was expecting the third generation dot to be more portable. Unfortunately, however, the newer dot is still not as portable as the previous dot. But they are third party accessories you can get on Amazon to make it more portable.
The 3rd Generation Echo Dot sounds more impressive and sound way better than the 2nd Generation. Isn’t the best sounding speaker out there, can’t compare it to the like of the Google home max, RIVA FESTIVAL Smart Speaker, Marshall Acton II Wireless Wi-Fi Multi-Room Smart Speaker Sonos Play. But for a small, smart speaker with a low price range, the sound is nice.
That it has a 360-degree speaker now really helps project its sound. It is definitely an improvement over the previous generation; It sounds impressive.
If you have two 3rd Generation echo Dots you can pair them up as a stereo speaker for a rich and better sound. You can place one in every room and still listen to the same music or whatever you want to listen to and it would play the same sound on all the Dot you have, you don’t necessarily have to hook up a dot to a dot, you can connect it with whatever Echo Device you have.
I think the dot is the best echo device for having Alexa all over your home, but if you still want to use it for playing music, the sound is still good, but it won’t have too much great impact on your music listening life, so if you want some serious sound, you are welcome to use the auxiliary port at the back to connect it to a bigger speaker. But for a small, smart speaker, it definitely sounds great.
The Dot is sensitive and responsive; it can pick up your voice from a far distance, or a noisy environment, and even while playing music.
The Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Generation is a small round, a smart speaker with a brilliant voice assistant called “Alexa” who is ever ready to brilliantly answer any questions fairly fast, Call almost anyone, hands-free using your voice. You can Use the Drop-In feature to instantly connect to another compatible Echo at home or somebody you know with an Echo device.
You can also order items from Amazon directly, play music from your smartphone as a smart speaker or stream music from your favorite streaming service provider, like apple music, Pandora, Spotify, Amazon music and play Audiobook from Audible. Control your smart home devices, like your thermostat, Philip Hue light Bulb, and control your TV and so much more with just you speaking to the Dot. There are 50,000+ skills you can enable on your Echo Dot, like order a pizza, order Uber, etc.
Alexa can also do the shopping for you, you don’t have to lift a finger, all you have to do is give your order and it would order whatever you want or add it to your shopping cart.
Alexa is always listening, but there’s a mute button at the top if you don’t want Alexa trying to listen to every word you say. You can temporarily turn off the microphone.
The 3rd Generation of the Echo Dot throws its predecessor the 2nd Generation Echo Dot out of the market, with a better design, richer sound, the sound is much stronger and louder; it’s still not the best sounding speaker, but for a low price smart speaker; It sounds very great, and it is still a low budget smart speaker, for a small size and new upgrades it would definitely look fantastic in any home.
